Brisbane Oddities & Curiosities Expo

The Oddities & Curiosities Expo comes to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Merivale St, South Brisbane, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November, 10am to 5pm both days. Vendors, dealers and artists sell taxidermy, preserved specimens, skulls and bones, antiques, quack medical devices, funeral collectibles, horror-inspired art, jewellery and clothing. Sideshow performers are on stage through the day. The organisers say everything sold is legal to own and sustainably sourced. Entry is $25 in advance or $30 on the day, and kids 12 and under get in free without a ticket. Hands-on classes run across the weekend and are booked separately, from $235 to $390, with entry to the expo included on the day of your class. Saturday has a jackalope taxidermy class and butterfly pinning. Sunday has an octopus wet specimen workshop, a squirrel shoulder mount taxidermy class and jewel beetle pinning. The taxidermy and wet specimen classes are 18 and over. The pinning classes are 10 and over, with a parent or guardian for under 18s.
